Levels of NDIS Support Coordination

There are four levels of NDIS support coordination recognized by the NDIS, which varies based on the complexity of an individual’s needs and the skills required by the support coordinator. These levels are:

1. Support Connection: This level is suitable for participants who have minimal complexity in their needs and require assistance in getting started with their NDIS plan. Support Connection focuses on building the participant’s capacity to manage their own plan, connecting them to service providers and community resources, and helping them understand and navigate the NDIS system.
2. Coordination of Supports: This level of support coordination is designed for participants with more complex needs who require regular assistance to implement and manage their NDIS plan. The support coordinator works closely with the participant, helping them identify and select suitable service providers, ensuring that supports are delivered as planned, and assisting with resolving any issues or changes that may arise.
3. Specialist Support Coordination: This level is for participants with high-level needs or significant challenges in managing their supports. Specialist NDIS Support Coordinators have expertise in working with participants with complex support needs, including those with challenging behaviors or multiple disabilities. They provide intensive support, including crisis management, support coordination during significant life transitions, and assistance in coordinating services from multiple sectors.
4. NDIS Support Coordination – Developmental: This level is specifically designed for children aged 0-6 years who have developmental delays or disabilities. Developmental Support Coordinators work closely with the child, their families, and early childhood service providers to ensure the child receives appropriate and coordinated support services. They focus on early intervention and developmental outcomes, helping families access relevant supports and therapies for their child’s optimal development.

The level of NDIS support coordination provided to an individual is determined based on their NDIS plan, their functional capacity, and the complexity of their needs. The NDIS participant, in collaboration with their NDIS planner, will discuss and decide the appropriate level of support coordination required to best meet their needs and goals.
